i found some excellent pictures up for auction of the mercantile bank building in dallas. the photos of the bank and r. l. thornton‘s office were taken circa 1958. i sometimes wonder who these highways are named after. it’s now posh condos but in 1942 it was dallas’ newest skyscraper and according to wikipedia it held the largest art deco wood murals in the world. it was the tallest building in dallas until 1954. i love the photo of thornton’s office with the plants in the floor and you can see the mobil oil pegasus of the magnolia building out the window. very mad men.
